  1. Open the terminal (Applications > Accessories > Terminal)

  2. Enter the commands: 

    $ sudo modprobe -r psmouse  
$ sudo modprobe psmouse proto=imps*

  3. Then enter: 

    $ cd /etc/modprobe.d/

  4. Then edit the options file:

    $ sudo gedit options*

  5. Type in the following:

    options psmouse proto=imps*

  6. Save the file and reboot
